DUI/DWI Education Class Frequently Asked Questions

What is a DUI/DWI Education Class?

A DUI/DWI Education Class is an educational program, typically for first-time offenders, designed to reduce the risk of future alcohol and drug-related problems. It educates individuals about the consequences of impaired driving through a series of classes that may include lectures, group discussions, and individual counseling, with a curriculum that focuses on making safer choices. Programs are court-ordered or required by the motor vehicle administration to fulfill legal requirements. We offer two classes:

· 12-hour DUI/DWI Class- Six classes, two hours per class
· 26-hour DUI/DWI Class- Twenty-six classes, one hour per class

This will be determined after our counselor conducts your initial assessment. Your attorney, Judge or Parole Officer may also have a specific requirement.
Generally, you will be able to make up for missed sessions. However, you should communicate with your counselor about rescheduling in advance if possible. Missing sessions will extend the time it will take for you to complete the classes and receive the certificate of completion.
Upon completion of the class, we will provide you with a certificate of completion, documenting your attendance and progress. Please note, if you are paying out-of-pocket for this class, all fees must be paid in full before we will issue a Certificate of Completion.
DUI/Early Intervention classes cover topics such as the effects of alcohol and drugs on the brain and body, the legal and social consequences of DUI offenses, and strategies for making better decisions and preventing future incidents. Participants also learn about blood alcohol concentration (BAC), risk reduction, coping skills, and identifying personal triggers and negative social influences. See the DWI Class Curriculum below.
