  • A private, telehealth-capable space with a computer or laptop and reliable internet access.
  • Trained medical staff (e.g., a nurse) to administer daily medication and confirm ingestion.
  • Monthly urine drug testing capabilities, with results sent to Genesis Treatment Services.
  • Proper protocols for disposing of unused medication.
Protocols
  • Intake assessments, counseling, and follow-ups are conducted via telehealth.
  • Weekly medication deliveries include chain-of-custody documentation.
  • Patients attend weekly counseling sessions (30–60 minutes) and periodic virtual follow-ups.

Semi-Remote MAT

A hybrid model for facilities with partial infrastructure.
Requirements
  • Telehealth capabilities for remote services.
  • Secure transportation for residents to attend in-person services as needed.
  • Basic drug testing capabilities.

  • All services, including intake, counseling, and medication administration, occur at Genesis Treatment Services locations.

Detailed Protocols for Complete Remote MAT

Intake Process for New Patients
  1. Schedule an intake assessment with Genesis Treatment Services.
  2. Submit required forms (Consent for Release of Information, Patient Profile), patient ID, and insurance verification.
  3. Collect and submit a urine sample for testing before the intake.
  4. Conduct intake via telehealth with our Nurse Practitioner or Medical Director, followed by a counseling session.
  5. Medications are delivered weekly, starting with a titration period to achieve stability.
Titrations to Achieve Stability (First 2–3 Weeks)
  • Patients start with a “beginning dose,” adjusted weekly based on withdrawal symptoms.
  • Regular communication with Genesis Treatment Services ensures timely dose adjustments during the titration period.
Other Required Services After Intake

Counseling

  • Weekly individual counseling sessions (30–60 minutes) are mandatory.
  • Counseling is conducted via telehealth (with video) or telephone.
  • Noncompliance with counseling requirements may negatively impact treatment outcomes.

Drug Testing

  • Facilities must collect at least one monthly urine drug sample (standard MAT panel) for each patient.
  • Test results must be faxed to Genesis Treatment Services promptly.

Medical Provider Follow-Ups

  • Regular follow-ups with a Nurse Practitioner or Medical Director are required.
  • These appointments are typically conducted via telehealth but may occasionally require in-person visits.

TB Screening

  • Facilities must conduct and submit TB test results or arrange for in-person testing at Genesis Treatment Services if the patient meets the criteria for testing.

  1. Weekly medication deliveries are standard, with options for biweekly or monthly delivery based on facility capabilities and Medical Director approval.
  2. Deliveries are accompanied by chain-of-custody forms, which must be signed and faxed back to Genesis Treatment Services.

Medication Storage

  1. Medications must be stored in a secure, locked cabinet or DEA-approved safe.
  2. Patients must not have access to this storage under any circumstances.

Medication Administration

  1. A designated and appropriately licensed medical staff member must witness and confirm the ingestion of medication daily.
